The first Thursday of every month always provides a good excuse to get some culture in at the Walker. Not only do they waive admission, but their elegant D'Amico-run restaurant, Gather, invites notable chefs in to make and share a couple of bites of food -- completely gratis. Gather has just announced the next chefs to take up residence alongside its own Josh Brown in the kitchen.
The next round of chefs-in-residence begins today with Chef Chris Dmochowski of D'Amico's Campiello. The chef will prepare two small dishes for Gather's diners to sample free of charge.
On February 6, the chef will be Mike Rakun, who runs the kitchen at downtown Minneapolis's Marin
and Mill Valley Kitchen in St. Louis Park.
For the March 6 evening service, the two dishes will come courtesy of Amy Thielen. Her cookbook The New Midwestern Table: 200 Heartland Recipes was one of the best books we read all of last year. It quickly became a classic for reinterpreting and appreciating the cuisine of our corner of the world. Thielen is also the host of the Food Network's Heartland Table series.
April 3 will bring Tyler Shipton, the executive chef of the North Loop hot spot Borough. We'll never forget one of the first dishes we sampled when Borough opened last year: a champagne potato soup that was his creation. Since then, we've come to count on those playful, delicious plates that pour forth from his kitchen.
Along with the samples, Gather offers a happy hour menu and will have cocktail specials. Each event runs from 5 to 9 p.m.
