Indeed and Northbound release their Hot Box 2014 brew
Sometimes the art of the brewing craft unites unexpected parties, and something truly unique happens. This is the case with Indeed Brewing's new Hot Box Smoked Pepper Porter, the result of a collaboration between Indeed and Northbound Smokehouse. Tomorrow, the duo will host a release party to celebrate the fruits of their partnership.
The beer is the joint creation of Indeed's Josh Bischoff and brewpub Northbound Smokehouse's Jamie Robison. For the recipe, Northbound Smokehouse supplied hickory-smoked peppers and malts, and the ingredients were then moved to Northeast Minneapolis for the brewing and bottling.
The first Hot Box brew was created in 2013 and its second incarnation will be released on Tuesday, January 28 in a special release party at Northbound Smokehouse. The release will feature both the 2013 and 2014 recipes of the beer for comparison, as well as a mini tap takeover featuring Indeed's other brews.
The two brewers previously worked together at Town Hall Brewery and when the two went their separate directions, the idea of collaboration was born. Hot Box first premiered in 2013, but the new recipe this year features poblano and jalapeno peppers in place of 2013's use of frenso and jalapeno to better capture a pepper flavor, as opposed to just the heat.
"Because of the smoky nature of the beer," notes Northbound's owner Amy Johnson, " Hot Box pairs with almost anything on our smoked meat menu. I would suggest pairing it with our Smoked Beef Sandwich because the subtle spiciness of Hot Box will compliment it very well."
While the release party will take place at Northbound Smokehouse, the beer will then be made available throughout the metro at select bars and liquor stores, including the Happy Gnome, Muddy Pig, Grumpy's NE, and Pat's Tap, and stores such as Ale Jail, Lake Wine & Spirits, and MGM Eagan.
