Mooyah, a "better burger" chain, announces plans for Minnesota restaurants

It seems that chain restaurants can't get enough of the Twin Cities lately. A few weeks ago, Dunkin' Donuts announced plans to roll out approximately 50 stores in Minnesota. This week, we found out Matt Kalil, the Vikings offensive lineman, hopes to open Minnesota's first Pieology Pizza within a few months. Now Mooyah Burgers, Fries & Shakes, a fast-casual "better burger" chain from Texas, wants to open 13 restaurants in the metro area, according to the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal.

"We are talking to a lot of qualified individuals, both in and outside the restaurant industry, and I think we are getting close," Ardag Tachian, the development agent for Mooyah, told the Business Journal.

Though Mooyah has made a franchise agreement for a Rochester restaurant with Randy Bergerson (yes, that's his real name), nothing is set in stone.

Mooyah's first restaurant opened in Plano, Texas, in 2007. Today, the company has 56 locations in 12 different states. According to their website, they plan to have more than 100 locations open by the end of this year.

Like Subway and Chipotle before it, Mooyah revolves around an assembly line setup, where customers choose from five burgers (or a hot dog), three buns (or a lettuce wrap), five cheeses, and a wide array of free toppings, like fried onion strings and sautéed mushrooms. Burgers range from $5 to $6, but customers can also choose a combo deal that includes french fries and a milkshake of choice for $8 to $9. We like the sound of the mint chocolate chip and strawberry banana milkshakes, but customers have eight more flavors to choose from.

Do Minnesotans really need another burger joint with Five Guys, My Burger, Smashburger, Matt's Bar, Blue Door, and Burger Jones already at our fingertips? We'll let you be the judges.

With bible verses on packaging In-n-Out can stick it. Need them as much as Chik-Fil-A. They're overrated too.

In and Out does not franchise, so we will never see one in Minnesota.

To be fair to the " chain " places that a good majority of the people on this thread seam to dislike, just because its a little Minneapolis / Minnesota place doesn't automatically make it good. I have had both the 5-8 and matt's and I would have to say I was displeased with both, over chard hockey pucks fill with lava cheese isn't my idea of a good burger. Its seems to me that people in this state have a little too much pride and feel like they have to support local no matter what it is. Just because its a Minnesota thing doesn't make it great or even good. P.s. The blue door is overrates as well, sorry.

Honestly all of these reports listing we've got the best economy are why... it's pure business: You go where the money is. Too bad they're overlooking the over-saturated market but thankfully it doesn't hurt us any if they come here and fail.

I can't believe I'm saying this but we already have too many burger choices in town, same with pizza places. We have 100s of awesome burger and pizza places in the metro area. Most of these places are barely surviving already due to market saturation. Enough already.

Seems like an awfully saturated market for another chain...the only one we really need to add to the mix is In-n-Out Burger. nom nom.

The long defunct Snowshoe Inn in Marcell had the best burgers and the waitress was delightful.
