Last night Punch Pizza got some publicity better than any Superbowl ad.

The President of the United States gave the local pizza chain an extended shout out during the State of the Union, lauding the company for giving employees raises to $10 an hour and calling on businesses across the country to follow Punch's good example.

"Nick helps make the dough, only now he makes more of it," President Obama said in reference to Punch employee Nick Chute who was seated next to Punch founder John Soranno behind First Lady Michelle Obama.

Here is the video in case you missed it or just want to relive the glory:

WHY is everyone so obsessed with Punch when Mesa Pizza exists?!? Am I the only one who feels Punch is far inferior?!?

I wonder if Pizza Luce would consider such an adjustment? At least for their non-tipped employees...

I'd be there in a heart beat to support them... Kudos to the owner for caring enough to pay his employees a minimum living wage... God bless him... He will be rewarded greatly for his kindness...

What a bunch of whiners, here man. Can't you just keep your classless comments of not liking the pizza or not being happy for the workers to yourselves? No one cares if you are an unhappy person. When did the people in my state turn into a bunch of bratty children?

Yes we should pay attention to what that lying liar has to say. If you like your pizza , you can keep your pizza.

Their Pizza is kinda mediocre at best.

I think the point is that business owners need to take slightly smaller returns and pay their employees a living wage.

~ Yup, the Prez says: Support your hard-working non-unionized industries by giving them more than a single digit wage ($9.00 + / NINE DOLLARS ... REALLY REALLY ? ? ?) ~ (He literally gave props to Punch Pizza for giving their cooks a raise to $10/hr) Yeeeeeeaaah give hard working cooks more than a single digit wage. Well, I do know quite a bit about Punch Pizza ... The place has multiple storefronts, and do bourgeois things such as IMPORT THEIR TOMATOES. You'd think they'd of given their cooks/chefs livable wages years ago .... Thanks President Obama; but, I learned in high school well established businesses should spread their good fortune with their hard-working staff.

its great they can afford to pay a higher wage but it's hardly a typical 'fast food' joint. likely has much higher margins. it would be interesting to project what would happen to menu prices at mcdonalds, Taco Bell, etc.... if the minimum wage was $15 to maintain the same return to the business owner or shareholders.

Let's all get out and support Punch Pizza by eating there - hopefully it will help other businesses to do the same with their employees.

I kept my health insurance and still go to my same doctor - and I actually pay a little less that before so you must be refering to the tiny percentage of people that Faux News keeps yammering on about. Asshole!

The business owners should do whatever keeps their business running smoothly and successfully. Not whatever gives you feel goods.

$10/hr isn't a living wage.   I'd say you need at least $15/hr

Tell that to the asshole Republicans.

@MNjoe

You mean the millions of people who lost their coverage through their employers and had to sign on to the ACA and pay 5 times what they were paying before (not to mention ridiculous $4-5,000 deductibles)? You mean THAT tiny percentage, Fucktard?  Besides, you don't even pay for health insurance. You're on fucking social security disability because you're an alcoholic and cannot hold down a job. Loser.

@WhiteMatt @MNjoe Millions? Give a link to your stats idiot. Also, I work 50+ hrs. a week. Notice the time - I'm getting ready to leave for work.  I'm surprised you haven't gone into your sick abortion rant by this time - what kind of meds are you on?  ObamaCare may be able to help you with you mental issues - god know you fucking need help. And it's the law of the land - tweaks and improvements will be made as with any new program - but you can rant and grow an ulcer but you will not change a thing. Obama won 2 elections and it's a done deal. Can I ask you a question? Why do you want to live in such a progressive state? And why do you read and comment on articles in a progressive newspaper? Can't you just move to Alabama and go on the Faux News site?
