|Sawatdee closes two express locations |
Late last week we learned in a report from the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal
that Sawatdee had closed a second of its eight locations.
The two shuttered locations, both in Minneapolis, include the Uptown location, which closed about six months ago, and the Baker Center Skyway location, which closed over the holidays. Both were Sawatdee Express locations, which served as the company's fast casual dining model and focused primarily on takeout.See also:
Since opening in 1983, Sawatdee has been a Twin Cities Thai dining institution. The company's remaining six locations are all full-service dining, and are still open. According to a representative, "The express model in the Uptown location was simply not viable. For the skyway location, we just closed over the holidays because we
were unable to renew our lease. We hope our skyway express customers
will utilize our Minneapolis restaurant location for delivery or lunch
And in a post on the restaurant's Facebook page, the company said, "We're all bummed that our Sawatdee Express Skyway location is now closed. But come to our full-service Minneapolis location for lunch buffet ($9.95 in-house or $8.95 to go) for an awesome lunch. And we have delivery too."
