August Schell, the New Ulm-based brewery founded in 1860 and the second oldest family-run brewery in the United States, releases a new winter beer each year under the Snowstorm label. This year's is the first to win a BTI award. "To receive a gold medal in today's market, where everyone is putting out first-class beers is a real honor," says Sales and Marketing rep (and 6th generation Schell) Kyle Marti. "We want to thank our loyal customers for their continued support."

The beer profiles light and complex with a heavy spice, offering both a contrast for heavier foods and a lighter body that pairs well with light meats like poultry and fish or with greens such as arugula.

The winter beer is a seasonal offering and supplies are currently limited. However, Twin Cities fans can still grab the Belgian Strong Golden Ale at Muddy Pig, New Bohemia, Rail Station, Stub & Herbs, or at liquor stores such as St. Anthony Village Liquors, South Lyndale, or Elevated Liquors.
