|Sushi and Thai coming to Seward|
It looks as though the lights at 27th Street and Franklin Avenue might not be dark for much longer. Drunken Sake, a new sushi and Thai restaurant, will open soon at that address, the former location of True Thai. We spoke with the co-owner to get the scoop on this new spot.
Elle Kunsawat Lee, who also owns East Side Thai
in St. Paul with her husband Kou Lee, says, "We are committed to authentic Thai cuisine. It's been a long passion for us to combine fresh sushi with the variety of flavors in Thai food. From there, we came up with Drunken Sake."
Menu items will include pad Thai, pad see yew, red and green curry, tom yum soup, green papaya salad, and five different kinds of Thai fried rice and stir fry. Plus, expect all manner of sushi rolls, as well as a head sushi chef who goes by the name of Bruce Lee -- which is pretty awesome.
The owners of Drunken Sake first announced they would open under the name Drunken Fish, but legal wrangling led them to change course. The "Drunken" portion of the name comes from a traditional Thai dish, says Lee: "ผัดขี้เมา [Drunken noodles] Spicy Thai dish with holy basil, garlic, lots of Thai hot chili." The term "sake" is not only the name of a popular Japanese alcoholic beverage, but also the Japanese word for salmon.
As for alcoholic beverages, Drunken Sake will have a full bar and lounge area. The projected opening is in April. Follow along on their Facebook page
