Spring is in the air somewhere, which means that Bock Fest is back for the 28th time in New Ulm. August Schell Brewing is hosting the outdoor festival complete with live polka, German food, and their own beers, marking the alleged turning of the seasons. Anyone with a good winter coat and a dedication to Minnesota beer should head on down to check it out. Local brewpub the Herkimer is bringing a shuttle for those who plan ahead.

If you prefer to enjoy Schell's in the comfort of a warm pub, the brewery is hosting a party at O'Gara's on Thursday, March 6 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their pilsner beers. Starting at 5 p.m., the pub will offer flight specials of a new Pils series to mark the milestone.

Friday, 612 Brew is serving a beer dinner at Pinstripes in Edina, and on Saturday, ENKI Brewing and Sovereign Estate Wine are co-sponsoring an 8-course meal at the Willow Room, complete with live music and artesian wine along with the beer/food pairings.

In other local beer news, Steel Toe's Wee Heavy scotch ale is now in stores, as is Schell's Maifest. Craft beer fans outside of the metro will also soon be noticing more Indeed on their shelves, as the Northeast Minneapolis brewery has struck a distribution deal that takes them further outstate, to spots such as St. Cloud, Brainerd, Bemidji, and Willmar.

For those drinking at the many taprooms in the city this weekend, 612 will host Simply Steve's food truck on Friday and Little G's Pizza on Saturday. Across the river, Summit will host Cajun 2 Geaux and Trivia Mafia on Friday, with Tiki Tim's serving food on Saturday.
