It wasn't an undiscovered gem of the Twin Cities culinary scene or anything, but it was the ideal friendly hangout location, with a good happy hour, lots of comfortable quiet space for reading and working, and pretty decent food. I'm sad it's gone. Unlike Burch and most of the other new restaurants in the area, it catered to neighbors and locals instead of rich suburbanites and high-end condo residents from Lake Calhoun. Its closure leaves the neighborhood a little less hospitable to average Minneapolitans.

Really sorry to hear this! The management and service was always warm and wonderful and helpful and fun. The food way always always yummy and atmosphere evoked great feelings.

Definetly bummed. I guarentte that I make a lot less money than most of the people bitching hear, and I definetly did not think that there prices were "OUTRAGEOUS!!!" Not cheep, but well worth is. I Fuckg loved The Reason For Rye sandwitch. You people are a bunch of ingrates! Rye offered somthing in this city you cant get anywhere else.

Nothing you can do about parking there... it's just a really bad location for any business. The spot Rye was previously was vacant for what seemed like forever... probably 10 years. The small building adjacent to Lowry Hill Liquor has seen so many tenants I've lost track (probably ~5 in the past 20 years). It flips so much I can't even remember who occupied it before that flower shop that moved to a better location. Now it's a spa/massage place. It's ridiculous that Burch charges for valet when the only option is street parking, which is almost always full because it's a residential side street.

Not surprised. Terrible poutine. Cursed location.

Classic problems with a fairly good back of house but absolutely no clue on how to run the front. I was always a bit confused on whether I should stand here or go there, as well as many other details on how I was supposed to interact with the place. My tolerance for that is pretty high; most folks will walk out, or at least never come back. Those who complain about pricing really haven't a clue: These are the prices I'd expect to pay for this food (and I never had a stale bagel there, so I'm basing my assessment on my own experiences). Hopefully the food folks can connect with people who know how to run the rest of a restaurant. They had good stuff.

Bad pricing and tiny portions. I saw this coming but take no joy in it.

Food was shockingly overpriced and service was indifferent.  So long.

Best little eatery in the area. Just far enough out of the way that tourists don't end up in there being loud and obnoxious, but I've never seen it empty.

@digitaldeath The sandwiches were horrendously overpriced but you could get a ton of happy hour food for like eight bucks, and it was only not happy hour for a few hours a day. Basically I got a sandwich one time and forgot they ever existed, after which I started to like the place

Cecil's Deli is in St Paul, an hour bus ride away or a $30 cab ride.  Are you serious?
