Desperate to binge before lent, eat free food, and support a good cause all at once? The International House of Pancakes has got you covered with its ninth annual National Pancake Day.

On Tuesday from 7 to 10 p.m., IHOP is offering free short stacks of pancakes in exchange for an optional donation to Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Donations from Minneapolis-area IHOPs will be sent to Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare. Last year, IHOP served 4.5 million free pancakes and donated almost $3 million to charity. This year, they hope to do the same.

"Knowing that every free stack of buttermilk pancakes has the potential to improve the lives of the children in their own community makes serving them and eating them even more enjoyable than usual," Julia Stewart, interim president of IHOP said in a statement.

IHOP's National Pancake Day happens to fall on Shrove Tuesday, otherwise known as Pancake Tuesday, which marks the day before Lent. Traditionally, Lent prohibited the consumption of all dairy products, and pancakes were considered a good way to use up leftover dairy and eggs, hence the name Pancake Tuesday.

Stop by one of IHOP's 11 Minnesota locations tomorrow to claim your stack. The offer stands until 10 p.m., so you have plenty of time to stuff your face after work.

It just needs some butter. A golf ball sized glop of butter. And pure corn syrup poured liberally over the while plate.
