As if the North Loop wasn't already a dining destination, we just received news that a rather big fish is landing in our little pond. Gavin Kaysen, best known the world over as the executive chef at Cafe Boulud in New York City, will actually be leaving the Big Apple for the Minneapple.

The news broke on Twitter earlier today when Andrew Zimmern shared the news that Kaysen is heading to the North Loop where he'll open a restaurant called Merchant in late 2014.

Huge Food News: @gavinkaysen leaving @CafeBouludNY coming home, opening Merchant in Mpls N Loop late 2014 Wow.

Cafe Boulud later confirmed the story, saying that Kaysen will step away from the kitchen this summer.

While the move might leave some in NYC scratching their heads, Kaysen isn't unfamiliar with the Twin Cities -- he was raised in Bloomington. Kaysen, a Food & Wine Best New Chef in 2007, studied at the New England Culinary Institute in Montpelier, Vermont, where he graduated in 2001. From there he has traveled the world working with such legends in the culinary world as Marco Pierre White at L'Escargot in London before working for chef Daniel Boulud. Kaysen has also competed in the Bocuse d'Or, the international baking competition.

For more information on Kaysen, you can visit his website. Until he arrives, we'll be waiting with bated breath.

So rather than mention a MN boy coming home, we have to throw a NYC plug into it to boost our ego's. I will be waiting without bated breath as the restaurant scene at times gets a little exhausting.
