We've been proponents of Las Teresitas since it opened about two years ago. The south Minneapolis cantina was our pick for Best Mexican Restaurant
in 2013 and our Best Taco
winner in 2012. Now it seems Travel & Leisure
magazine has not only stumbled across the south-side taqueria, but they've also named it one of the best Mexican restaurants in the United States
appears alongside such notable restaurants as celebrity chef Rick Bayless's Topolobampo in Chicago, Jose Andreas's Oyamel in Washington D.C., and Alex Stupak's Empellon Cocina in New York City. There are of course other small hole-in-the-wall taco joints on the list, but those are some pretty big names for a small strip mall restaurant to rub elbows with.

Las Teresitas was founded by Gaspar Perez, the owner of erstwhile Twin Cities Mexican haven Taco Morelos. Perez named Las Teresitas after his mother and daughter, both named Teresa. Since its opening, it's become a South Minneapolis hot spot, praised for the tasty, extremely affordable Mexican fare.
According to the folks over at Travel & Leisure
, "The burritos are huge, the Enchiladas Teresas with green salsa, ranchera, or Mexican mole, win raves, and the nine salsas are the stuff of local legend."
We tend to agree. Other notable dishes include the giant enchilada burritos, the tamales, and the fajitas. For those who have yet to experience that truly amazing salsa bar, which sits proudly smack dab in the middle of the restaurant, it's filled with not only 9 different salsas, but also a wide variety of garnishes, including an incredible relish of jalapenos, cauliflower, carrots, and onions.
