If you ask us, Minneapolis could always use more tacos. Fortunately, this year has been fruitful on the corn tortilla front. Boca Chica celebrated 50 years of service with $1 tacos in March, Taco Cat started delivering tacos by bicycle in April, and now Lago Tacos, Excelsior's lakeside taco joint, is opening a new location on Lyndale Avenue in the former Heidi's space.

Lago Tacos will serve up street-style tacos with fillings like shrimp, tuna, lobster, and steak. Our personal favorite is the most Minnesotan of all -- the walleye taco, featuring beer-battered walleye, chipotle mayo, a cabbage blend, pico de gallo, avocado, and queso fresco. There's also a beef and potato combo that sounds like comfort-food heaven, served with colby-jack cheese and the usual fixings. Each order comes with three corn tortilla tacos and your choice of pinto beans, Lago rice, or sweet corn cakes.

If tacos aren't your thing, Lago also offers "monster burritos" served with a choice of side, in addition to appetizers like fried avocado, tostadas, and seafood ceviche.

Lago Tacos serves breakfast on the weekends, with options ranging from chilaquiles (fried tortilla chips with chicken, salsa verde, cheese, and eggs) to French toast. The restaurant also offers extensive wine, beer, margaritas, specialty drinks, and tequila options. Lago's Excelsior location currently offers 26 varieties of tequila, ranging in quality from first to third tier. For those attempting bikini-ready bodies, Lago offers a skinny margarita prepared with Sauza tequila and a homemade skinny margarita mix.

Check back next week for our first look at Lago Tacos.

Love both locations. Very quality food and a great environment at both locations-especially at the new location! We were there opening night and our service was great. This place will be a staple in the area very soon.

Everyone sitting at the bar gets a sunset shot for the toast and it's the second of an enormously successful first location.

Tried it last night. Good chips and guac, tacos aren't too bad. The rice sucks though Coming from a Latina it's saying a lot. Service was a little off and they did this random toast at like 8pm but it's not like they gave out shots or anything. Really didn't make sense. Although, this is exactly what lynlake needed! Enough of dumb bistros and odd food. Still Nicos has mastered the taco in uptown

Wasn't there a Lago Tacos that failed disastrously where the Golden Leaf is now?

That's funny. My bill was 25 before tip. So 29 dollars it's cool to get charged for salsa. You would think they could give you more rice and beans as filler. So 29 bucks and I was still hungry. Food was bland

Three tacos and a drink will run about $15 before tip

I'm so tired of people with their "gluten sensitivities". Unless you shit blood every time you eat gluten, you're a pussy hopping on board with the current food trend. MAN UP.
