MIA's Third Thursday to feature one-off Summit-Dogwood cask beer
The Minneapolis Institute of Arts' Third Thursday events present a unique combination of food, drink, music, and art. Come May 15, that will include a special onetime collaborative beer combining two Twin Cities institutions: Summit Brewing and Dogwood Coffee.
The museum chose the theme Beerfest to mark American Craft Beer Week (May 12-18). The special beer featured is a variation of Summit's Oatmeal Stout, infused with Dogwood's Colombia El Meridiano coffee and served from a cask. Supplies are limited to just one cask, to be tapped at 6 p.m., but Summit will also have their EPA and Saga on tap and, for the indecisive drinkers, there will also be flights of four pours from the brewery, featuring their Summer Ale and porter (from bottles) in addition to the aforementioned drafts.
As for the cask beer, Summit chose this particular coffee variety "for its sweetness, toffee-like flavors, and creamy mouth feel," says Katie Hill, audience engagement specialist for Third Thursdays. MIA has a partnership with Stock & Badge, the restaurant partnership that includes Dogwood, which led to the Summit/Dogwood pairing.
The beer focus goes beyond the limited-edition beer, though. MIA has teamed with Duffy & Partners, the company behind Summit's new logo, for a "design your own label" setup, as well as with The Growler for a coloring event that highlights their past magazine covers. There will also be a mini-tour of the MIA's various drinking vessels, such as steins, mugs, and tankards, and a beer-themed photobooth, returning after a successful run at last year's Craft Brew-ha-ha event.
Live music will come courtesy of Black Diet, and the Current's DJ David Campbell will be hosting. Admission is free, but the beer is not.
