It's National Donut Day: How to celebrate in the Twin Cities

Cream-filled, sugar-crusted, powdered, or glazed, we want our donuts and we want them today. It's National Donut Day, and lucky for us, the Twin Cities is the place to be for these rich, sugary delights.
If you're just waking up, we have one caveat: This beloved national holiday isn't exactly a secret, so area donuts have been selling like hot cakes. Hot, delicious cakes with icing and fillings and soft, melt-in-your-mouth dough.
Top 10 donuts in the Twin Cities
A couple of local shops are celebrating the day with specials, but mostly they're just trying to keep up with the demand.
Glam Doll Donuts is serving a Donut Day special: The Dani's Double Dee-lite comes with peanut butter cream filling, fresh raspberry icing, and is topped with a house made soft peanut brittle.
Bogart's Doughnut Company will be celebrating by making extras of their brioche donuts filled with butter cream and Nutella. This new shop has been selling out all week so get in early, because once they're sold out, they're out.
A Baker's Wife will be making donuts throughout the day to stay in stock. So far this morning customers have been buying four or five dozen at a time. We recommend the classic cinnamon sugar cake donut.
Granny Donut in St. Paul was similarly slammed with customers when we checked in. If you get there in time, we're particularly fond of the crispy apple fritter.
