You can't say we don't love our beer here in the Twin Cities.

Mayor Betsy Hodges has declared this Thursday, June 12, "612Brew Day" in Minneapolis. The Northeast-based brewery, named in honor of the local area code, pitched the 612Brew Day idea to the mayor's office and she happily obliged. In addition to an official signed declaration, the brewery will mark the occasion with a few special events.

612's taproom will have live music at their outdoor amphitheater from Kingsview, Local Rhythm, and Jake Jones, special t-shirts commemorating the date, a firkin of their Rated R brew aged in whiskey oak, and special guests throughout the night.

"Not many companies have a date that happens to coincide with the name of the business," the brewery says. "We are happy to lay claim to the date as well."

Mayor Hodges herself does not drink, but Kate Brickman, the mayor's director of communications and a Northeast resident, gave blessing to the designation. "612 Brew is one of my favorite outdoor patios," she says. "I love both Six and Rated R, depending on [what] I'm in the mood for."

6.12% of all proceeds from 612's taproom celebration will be given to Little Kitchen Food Shelf. 612Brew also works with Little Kitchen Food Shelf through a can drive affiliated with their brewery tours.
