Uptown loses a sushi spot as Social House announces its closure

Yesterday afternoon, in a posting on Facebook, Social House declared that effective immediately, this Uptown sushi spot would no longer be open for business.

According to the post, which prominently features the "That's all Folks" banner of Looney Toons fame, the landlord of the Uptown building that housed Social House has forced the bar and restaurant out of its lease. The restaurant had been a nine-year tenant of the building.

The Asian-inspired Social House featured a variety of Americanized versions of classic ethnic dishes, which included the likes of a bacon cheeseburger egg roll, Korean tacos, and tempura. Social House also offered a variety of sushi, much of which made heavy use of sweet sauces and spicy mayo.

While Social House officially opened its doors in 2012, the space was home to Fusion and before that Zeno. All three businesses were run and operated by the same management company.

With any luck, it'll become a sports bar. Cross your fingers!

I guess actually reading the article is asking too much? The landlord is terminating the lease. Nothing to do with the management of the restaurant or how good or bad you thought the food was.

I'm thinking that corner spot is haunted. Everything that has been there for the last few years has closed after a year or two

Thank goodness, this place was atrocious. Yet I can alone assume it will be replaced by yet another completely mediocre restaurant that will be sure to disappoint as this appears to be the theme for dinner/bars that fill this cursed space.

Eat street social is on eat street. Eat street Buddha kitchen, also on eat street, is what closed previously. This closure is for social house in uptown. 3 separate restaurants :/

This spot was actually taken over by the Fun Group Inc in early 2006. Zeno cafe was previously owned by two guys who got in way over their heads opening up two other Zeno locations. Zeno was a great place but unfortunately Fun Group ruined the concept. Who'd of thought the shadiest company in the biz could keep a location so long?

The fewer places these clowns run the better. Hopefully the space is utilized well with whomever takes over.

The one time I went there some of their staff was incredibly rude & I vowed to never go back. I'm not surprised. Good riddance.

The landlord terminated the lease. It had nothing to do with the restaurant. The management was the same throughout the 12 year run. So it's not the "curse of the corner". Obviously the property owner has bigger ideas in mind or more likely an offer he couldn't refuse.

This is really sad, I have always loved the atmosphere in these places but I agree. It's as cursed as the Azia corner. Why is it so difficult to maintain trendy Asian venues?
