The Seven Steakhouse Sushi Ultralounge Skybar isn't just four different restaurant names smashed together. It is the full name of the nightlife epicenter most diners call Seven, a place where the classy folks of the Twin Cities come to drink cosmos. It's also host to a weekly all-you-can-eat sushi bar. So does the fish stack up or is it just the table scraps that the fancy folks turned down?

Sushi doesn't do very well in a standard buffet setting. Many restaurants address this issue by offering their all-you-can-eat sushi on a per-order basis, which is the format Seven has selected.

Seven's sushi special runs on Mondays from 6 to 8:30 p.m. for $35, though there is no mention of it on the Seven website nor on any signage in the restaurant. When your hostess seats you you will not be offered the all-you-can-eat sushi menu, it must be requested. All-you-can-eat diners receive edamame, miso soup, and a selection of nigiri, maki rolls, and specialty rolls.

There is a lot of excellent maki and nigiri to be had here. The specialty rolls are largely tempura-based fillings with unagi sauce and tempura flakes atop the roll. These won't wow sushi purists or connoisseurs, but for individuals a bit hesitant about getting into raw fish, the specialty rolls with cooked fish go a long way.

Seven also offers escolar, a fish that is risky to consume in more than six-ounce portions because of its wax content. Take the risk and treat yourself to one order: The buttery fish is the best of the nigiri selection.

This won't be the sushi experience that convinces your coastal friends we aren't sushi flyover territory, but if you are looking for an affordable sushi night out, this Monday night deal is a great way to give Seven a try.

A sushi chef once told me to NEVER eat sushi on Monday. It's when they unload their weekend stock before their next delivery.

I love sushi, but it doesn't really seem like an all-you-can-eat food...
