With the State Fair and Labor Day on the calendar, it's a weekend void of beer festivals. That's not to say there's no beer activity in the Twin Cities (and beyond), just that you'll have to visit the taprooms and your favorite stores, bars, and restaurants. Plus, as next weekend marks official hop harvest season, breweries around the state are prepping for their fresh hop recipes.

As usual, there is also music to be found in local taprooms. This weekend Harriet will host Ian Thomas Alexy and the Deserters (Friday) and the Poor Nobody's (Saturday). Dang Ol' Tri'Ole are at Lift Bridge on Friday.

Brooklyn Center just passed an ordinance to allow Sunday taprooms, and Surly is set to be open from noon to 5 p.m. on August 31. They will be adding Sunday food trucks starting the following week.

As for new Minnesota beers outside the fair, Schell's has released Black Forest Cherry, a new addition to their Noble Star line. This is a cherry, cypress-aged sour available in 750ml bottles.

Future Midtown Global Market resident Eastlake Craft Brewery has announced a merchandise sale online to raise funds. Early purchases will come with free beer coupons. Fair State Brewing Cooperative hopes for a soft open early next month as well.

In Menomonie, Lucette Brewing has announced plans to expand and increase capacity. And, of course, the Minnesota Craft Brewer's Guild continues its State Fair exhibit, Land of 10,000 Beers. Flat Earth, Grain Belt, Summit, and more local breweries have featured items this year.

Weekend food truck/taproom pairings include Rusty Taco at Bauhaus Brew Laws (Friday) and Anchor (Saturday). Scratch (Friday) and Hibachi Daruma (Saturday) will be at Fulton. Surly will host Butcher Salt (Friday) and A La Plancha (Saturday).
