Polish your steins, put a feather in your cap, and make amends with your liver: An early Oktoberfest celebration is moving downtown for three days in mid-September.

September 12 through 14, Oktoberfest will take place in a parking lot near Target Center on North 10th Street. The party will feature about a dozen bands and access to limitless German-themed food and drink with a VIP ticket.

The festival honors the 200-year-old tradition of Oktoberfest by mixing in modern events, celebrating Bavarian culture with races, contests, and entertainment. The full list of events includes competitive stein hoisting, a bratwurst eating contest, keg bowling, a Dachshund race, and several live bands -- both regional and, if the organizers can make final arrangements, one or two German groups. Admission will be free with cash sales and beer tickets on site for those who don't opt for the VIP package.

Sam Adams will be serving Oktoberfest, Boston Lager, extra seasonal offerings, and Angry Orchard hard cider. Several food vendors will be serving brats, pretzels, doughnuts, and more.

"We are focusing on the German theme to keep the Oktoberfest brand intact, but there will be a variety of options for event goers to choose from," says Human Movement Management Series director Lindsey Miller. Human Movement Management is a Colorado-based company and this is their first time organizing a Minneapolis Oktoberfest event.

Advance tickets are now available. Get a three-day VIP pass for $150, or select a single day VIP pass, which ranges from $50-$95 depending on which day you plan to attend.

Sam Adams is the only beer? I'm already bored.

Sounds like Human Movement Management didn't do their homework.

Sam Adams beer? How about serving Schell's or one of the other great MN-based brands?
