Urban Growler opens, Canterbury Park Beer Festival, tap takeovers, and more
Looking for a beer-loving experience outside of the usual urban parking lot or outdoor tent? How about at the race track? This Saturday you'll have your chance to try some beers while you try your luck, at the Canterbury Park Beer Fest. Sample beer from national and local breweries such as Excelsior, Flat Earth, Big Wood, Abita, and Kona, while enjoying live music and entrance into the park for horse racing. The beer fest begins at 6 p.m., and the first race is at 6:30.
In taproom news, Urban Growler Brewing Company has opened its doors this week for a soft opening. The taproom is open Friday from 3 to 10 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 10 p.m.
On Friday evening, Minneapolis celebrates the Riverfront Festival at Sheridan Memorial Park. The dedication for the new park will include beer from Northgate Brewing, Indeed, 612, and Sociable Cider Werks, with food trucks Undead Frank's, Stanley's, and others on hand.
August 2 is Mead Day. The St. Paul Homebrewers Club will host a mead demo and BBQ for members at a yet to be determined location.
The Red Stag Block Party takes place on Sunday, featuring four collaborative beers from eight varied Minnesota breweries. Hours are 2-8 p.m.
On Monday, Badger Hill will have a tap takeover at Tavern4&5 in Eden Prairie.
This coming Thursday night, Vine Park Brewing will host its annual Brews Cruise on the Mississippi via riverboat. Also on Thursday, the Minnesota Craft Brewers Guild will host a ticketed beer showcase at the Irish Fair Kickoff Party, with over a dozen beers from the likes of Summit, Finnegan's, and Angry Orchard alongside live music from Irish punks the Mahones at the Pub Tent on Harriet Island.
Food truck/brewery match-ups this weekend include O'Cheeze (Friday) and Cajun 2 Geaux (Saturday) at Boom Island Brewing and the Red Pig and Truffle (Friday) and Asian Invasion (Saturday) at Surly.
