After 34 years of running his old-fashioned bakery and almost three years of trying to sell it, Tschida Bakery owner Brian Anderson is finally hanging up his flour-covered apron and retiring, reports the Pioneer Press.
One of the hidden gems in this year's
Best Undiscovered Neighborhood (St. Paul's North End), Tschida was famous for its basic pastries, including super fluffy filled doughnuts, danishes, moist (even when day-old) muffins, and perhaps their best-loved items, poppy seed bread and cinnamon swirl bread. They also experienced 15 minutes of fame when the bakery was used to shoot the wedding cake shopping scene in the movie
Grumpier Old Men.
