Anchor Fish & Chips goes mobile

Northeast Minneapolis restaurant Anchor Fish & Chips is expecting quite a party when it launches its new food truck in its parking lot on May 19. Its debut will be part of the northeast Minneapolis 2012 Art-a-Whirl and will feature a few beer vendors as well as live music. Fish and chips, meat pasties, and a variety of other Irish goodies will be on the menu when Anchor joins the ranks of our eclectic mobile merchants. .

Give it up for the Barrio taco truck!

This weekend's Basilica Block Party begins tonight with a strong music lineup that includes Weezer and Spoon, but fans of good eating also won't be disappointed. As Bridgette Reinsmoen reports in this week's edition of Twin Cities Eater, City Pages' free weekly food newsletter:

The big change is that this year's celebration is remarkably foodie-friendly: The Barrio taco truck will be in attendance. Holy Land will bring falafel sandwiches. You can get frozen passion-fruit drinks from Island Noodles, sushi from Seven, and drinks from Tea Garden. Many of those choices will be available in meal combos priced around $10.

Many of the Twin Cities' top independent restaurants will be putting their best plate forward next month for the big Taste of the TCO food and wine event--and it's not too early to make plans. The July 22 event is a showcase for members of the Twin Cities Originals (TCO), a 20-strong group of restaurants that includes everyone from Murray's and Town Talk Diner to Afton House Inn and the St. Clair Broiler. Besides samples of the restaurants wares, chefs and bartenders will compete in a Restaurant Olympics.
