But I Thought You Weren't Famous Anymore!

Silverstone, Suvari and MacDowell make a baffling return in Beauty Shop.

They're back from Siberia, meaning, the so-so tables at the Ivy: Alicia Silverstone, Mena Suvari and Andie MacDowell are in the movies again, thanks to a benevolent queen (Latifah) and a wheezing franchise in need of three game white ladies. Silverstone, who was the the clueless cornsilk princess of 1995, is now better known for her environmental activism and failed sitcom. Suvari got her big break in American Beauty, but the liplicking tart routine didn't translate to subsequent projects (playing Chris Klein's love interest is always a red flag; see Sobieski, Leelee). McDowell is still a name thanks to scores of wooden performances in the '80s, but she hasn't had a hit in eons. Why all three actresses have popped up in Beauty Shop is anyone's guess, but they do seem to be having fun onscreen. Plus, Silverstone looks surprisingly fab in that Salt n' Pepa 'do.

(Speaking of extended Siberian holidays, Beauty Shop also features Keshia Knight Pulliam, aka Rudy from The Cosby Show. Apparently, Queen Latifah is a Saint Bernard when it comes to heroic career rescues.)
