Local rappers in the media

• okay my name is reef, i am the bassit to the band northern lights, we are a side project that works with young pluky and the whole brickboy2.2 company. young pluky does have a very powerful story that is a success to a lot of people. being a close and personal friend to young pluky, i will stand by this when i say, you will not find a more well qualified person to write about. he went threw struggles in his family growing up, going through rough times. but he did prevail and still is. please i incourage anyone who is interested in a story that goes from bad to good. to look into young pluky, he is a very intersting person that deserves to reconigzed for his achivments. -reef - northern lights

• Well, I'm glad to see somebody is picking up the "Young Pluky" story. Honestly, if I did live in the Cities, I would have looked into the story because, if it's as true as presented in Coleman's column, it's a great human interest story. Still can't figure out why he'd pick the name of a "notorious drug dealer," but whatever.

• Okay, now we should both be embarrassed: I just found my notes on Young Pluky (no "e") from the 4th Annual Twin Cities Celebration of Hip Hop. (Hey, I took two notebooks' worth of badly-scribbled notes, so cut me some slack.) The CD he was hawking (whose writing I couldn't understand, but is sitting right here) is titled D.T.R. Dodging the Rico. I have no idea what that means, but look for the story in Wednesday's City Pages.

• Umm, perhaps because I live in Rochester? And have my own magazine editing responsibilities to attend to? You know, THOSE types of things. Personally, I'll leave the digging up to local TWIN CITIES reporters/journalists to get the story but, strangely, I have this feeling we won't hear anything more about "Young Plukey." Step out of my corner? Dude, step out of YOURS.

• What I'm saying is, step out of your corner. Why don't you write the story?

• I meant to imply, Pete, is that not realizing a golden human interest story when it presents itself is either A) sort of suspicious or B) An indication that the journalist in question has phenomenally bad journalistic instincts and judgement. I fully stated on my blog that it was just my unsubstantiated conjecture that Coleman could have conjured "Young Plukey." I think the Young Plukey story should be further explored, and I'm entirley surprised that a seasoned journalist such as Coleman is supposed to be, didn't recognize that. None of which, of course, constitute "serious charges," only opinions, in my little corner of Internet free speech.

If you mean to imply that Coleman made the guy up, that's a serious charge. If you're saying he was duped, that's equally serious. But by leaving these accusations in the conditional "if," you can pretend you're asking a sincere question. So here's an answer: No. The name "Young Plukey" does ring a bell, but that's the best I can do after seeing about 100 rappers perform in the past few weeks alone.

• Has there been any coverage at all about "Young Plukey" beyond Coleman's "man-on-the-street" interview? It seems to me that Coleman monumentally dropped the ball by no further exploring "Young Plukey's" story. It would be a great human interest story, if "Young Plukey" truly exists. Not that I'm surprised Coleman didn't see this obvious fact or anything.
