Minneapolis bikers: Not just a bunch of 6–year–olds on Huffys
Attention all bikers: Global Bike Day 2008 is this Sunday. Midotwn Global Market, which will become even more bike–able with the grand opening of the nearby Cepro ramp to the Midtown Greenway, will be celebrating with activities throughout the day.
This daylong family–friendly event will feature information on biking around the Twin Cities, wacky and unique bikes on display, a "Baiku" contest (practice your 5–7–5 syllable poetry), and live music from Greg Herriges, Cadillac Kolstad and the Flats, and Blue Wolf Bluegrass. The ribbon will be cut at the grand opening of the Cepro ramp as well, which is located between 10th and 11th Avenues. Show up after 2:30 p.m. to take your maiden ride down the new entrance.
The Midtown Greenway Coalition, which seeks to promote community and commuter–friendly bike paths with its 5.5 miles of trail in south Minneapolis, has had a busy year. In addition to the new ramp, this May the Midtown Greenway opened the Freewheel Midtown Bike Center, which features racks, bike–related shopping, drinking fountains and showers, and bike rentals.
