Exploding cars, toxic waste, Kabuki celebrated in Minneapolis this weekend

No one knows how to make a fake, KoolAid–filled head explode quite like Troma.

Since the mid–70s Troma Entertainment has produced such quality work as the Toxic Avenger, a tale about a ballet dancer who goes on a homicidal (but just) rage after falling into a toxic waste barrel; Sgt. Kabukiman N.Y.P.D., a crime–fighting policeman with the powers of killer sushi; and they’ve even created something called the Penis Monster. For 35 years Troma has made the type of low–budget productions that were made for 4 a.m. VHS viewings.

This Saturday and Sunday, Troma fans (and people who just like vodka snowcones and live music) should be sure to check out Tromapalooza. The event will be held in the "Loring Alleyway", right by hosts Nick & Eddies (1612 Harmon Place) with events starting at 1 p.m. each day and running into the evening.

Live music will include bands like Faggot, Brother and Sister, Hot Rod Hearse, and cabaret performances. Costumed characters from many of Troma’s films will be wandering about, and even Troma president Lloyd Kaufman will put in an appearance. Each night will feature a screening of the popular Troma hit, Class of Nuke 'Em High.

Admittance is $10 and the fest is 21+, with proceeds going towards the Tromadance Film Festival, a film fest unique in that is does not charge a submission fee for competing filmmakers.
