Thanksgiving Eve show guide
On the HowWasTheShow.com blog today, David de Young provided a nice roundup of the shows happening tonight. As David says, it's usually one of the busiest nights of the year for local shows -- everyone knows that Thanksgiving food tastes better when you are hungover and suffering mild ear drum damage, right? If I know David, he's going to be hitting up at least half, if not all, of his recommended shows.
Here's a few of our favorite shows happening tonight:
with Little Man and the Alarmists
18+. $15. 7:30 p.m.
From our critics' picks, by Ward Rubrecht: "There are few things in the Twin Cities that kick off the holiday season more emphatically than Ike Reilly's annual Thanksgiving show. Drunk dude-bros, drunk indie kids, and drunk gray-hairs alike pack sardine-like into First Ave, hollering along to every song with an unmatched sense of camaraderie."
The Fuck Knights at the Hexagon
with Erik & the Savages, Strut and Shock, and the Anonymus
21+. Free. 10 p.m.
In case you missed it in today's print edition, check out David Hansen's profile of the Fuck Knights, who are playing a 7-inch release show tonight. From David's article: "They are a model machine, as efficient as a pocket watch, losing no kinetic energy to the friction of unnecessary gears and sprockets. Urgency drenches them."
Maudlin at the Triple Rock
with So It Goes and The Hopefuls
21+. $10. 10 p.m.
Maudlin will be partying at the Triple Rock tonight in honor of their new album, Maudlin and the Second Law of Thermodynamics. If the songs on their MySpace page are any indication, it should be a fun night full of pop hooks, power chords, and flair.
