Animal Collective tickets on sale tomorrow
Like, wow, man. Animal Collective.
It may still be four months until Animal Collective graces the main room stage this coming May, but this presale date is anything but premature. With Merriweather Post Pavilion setting countless blogspaces afire and drawing predictable acclaim from its shareholders, the band's name has never meant so many things to so many people.
The backlash and the adoration have reached critical levels, and much like the American middle class, the impartial or the prudent get drowned out by the shouting of two nearly equal majorities. The commotion is hardly warranted. They're a good band, and ought to be the sort of listenable, passably experimental act that we can all agree on, however grudgingly.
As for Merriweather Post Pavilion, it's a strictly listenable album, hardly worthy of the bickering of so many bored bloggers. Sure-- it may find the D.C. four in unusually tepid waters. Plenty of diamonds, not much rough. And certainly, part of Animal Collecitve's appeal has always been bushwhacking through the fronds of noise loops to find a few minutes worth dancing to. But can't we all just get along?
Probably not. Their live performances are equally polarizing. A case of bold communal adventuring, or half-assed, Busch league psyche out stuff? There's only one way to find out, and to do it, you'll have to stand on line for a while tomorrow.
