Beats & BBQ: Techno served spicy every Friday night

• "The conventional club scene is lacking support for locals who have an underground sound, and we felt that this needed to be a no-frills event that favored love over money in order to thrive." I stand by this. I witnessed the same faces getting booked week after week, and I was sick of complaining. If I had a dollar for every time someone said, "who's ass do you have to kiss to get booked around here?" I'd be rich. There are a TON of other shows in town, but I feel that our lineups feature more local diversity than the rest. That's why the night still succeeds. It helps that we give a home to genres that lack mass appeal like hard techno as well. I don't book myself very often. This is so I can make way for more people to play. A contrast to events where you see the promoters playing the headliner slot every week. It's also FREE which appeals to me, because I have a lot of broke friends who spend all of their money on records and music gear. It's not about me. It's about the hardworking musicians who play for free out of sheer love for music and the underground scene. It's about not having to dress up to impress people in a pretentious atmosphere. It's about seeing your friends, having a beer and a laugh, and dancing your troubles away. It's about younger dj's meeting old skool dj's and being able to talk to them and learn something new. But it's not a big deal, and that's why it's a big deal. The reason I said nobody else was stepping up to the plate... Any one of the dj's and a good portion of the crowd could do an event as good or better, but at the time I started nobody wanted to. There is nothing special about what I do. I'm just the guy who carries speakers and turntables in every week. just my thoughts. in response to the REALLY person who posted .

• I'm really glad that some local promoters and dj's from minneapolis is putting these unique spots up for some great music and good body moving from the electronic music scene. I was there back in 1998 when the only place to go and here true house and techno in minneapolis was at caf�iquid downtown or (later) at the natorius caf�usion. Later, I left mn for a bit only to come back with a renewed passion for Techno, House, Drum N Bass, etc. James Patrick's minimal techno nights at the dinkytowner on Friday nights were amazing which eventually led into other fancyful venues opening up to great DJ's. Over time big and fantastic clubs have come and gone; Tabu, Myth, and sadly, Foundation (along with even more underground spots; acfab, bloomingTonAv, the eye doctor, and possibly the factory of slamming). But now I see little spots like this and it just goes to show us all that the music is going to keep on coming and the nature of the club kids, DJs, music heads, junglists, and everyone else who just loves the music and lives it will keep it coming in Minneapolis!

• There are a whole lot more shows and a larger underground scene in Minneapolis than you state here. A lot of people working hard to throw shows as well. Saying that nobody else is stepping up to the plate also should be rethought as well. Sorry, just stating my opinion.
