Wing Young Huie, the award-winning photographer of projects like Lake Street USA, Frogtown, and Rural Minnesota, has received national attention for his efforts capturing the cultural landscape of our state. This Saturday his monthly Photo Salon series kicks off for 2009.
The classes, which occur 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. the last Saturday of each month, cost $20 per session. The workshops are open to all age groups, experience levels, and interests. Photographers are invited to bring their work, or just sit back and discuss the challenges they have faced, or expect to face. Topics addressed include simple things like how to get started, personal battles such as getting over inhibitions and approaching subjects, and even more philosophical quandries, including the politics of photography.

Classes take place at Wing Young Huie Photography and Gallery (2525 Franklin Ave. E., Minneapolis; 612.375.0191). For more info on the photographer himself, check out www.wingyounghuie.com.
