A poet, essayist, pianist, and frequent name on the City Pages A List, Minnesotan Bill Holm died this Wednesday evening after collapsing from heart trouble.

Though he had traveled far and wide, teaching in China and frequently visiting Iceland, he always returned home to Minnesota. Born on a farm not far from Minneota, Holm often spoke about how the small town influenced his writing, and framed the way that he perceived the world around him.

Bill Holm was a favorite of the local writing and performance scene, often appearing on Prairie Home Companion and MPR programming, he frequently showed support for other local artists. This past year he received the McKnight Distinguished Artist Award, an award that recognizes talented artists committed to the arts in Minnesota.

Known for his jovial, friendly personality, his love for travel, and his love for his hometown, Bill Holm will be deeply missed.
