Bloc Party cancels tonight's First Ave show

Bloc Party's vocalist Kele Okereke is calling in sick, forcing the band to take some PTO in place of the Minneapolis performance scheduled tonight at First Avenue. The British indie-rock group announced Okereke has come down with "viral pharyngitis," an inflammation of the throat between the tonsils and the larynx caused by a virus. Basically the dude has a serious sore throat.

The band has also canceled their show in St. Louis which was to follow their appearance here. Bloc Party posted this on their website:

After playing in Chicago last Saturday, [Okereke] has been ordered to rest to avoid any permanent damage - we're going to really try and return as soon as we can.

Again we're really sorry to all of you that have got tickets for these shows - ticket refunds for both shows are available at the point of purchase.

Okereke's throat was also the reason behind Bloc Party's no-show at Miami's Ultra Festival this past weekend. Apparently this 'viral pharyngitis' is quite common and he should be up and singing soon. If you had tickets to tonight's show, you can expect a refund from either Ticketmaster or the First Ave box office.

Not meant to rub it in, but here's a live version of "Signs", a track from their most recent release, "Intimacy", being played in Munich earlier this year. Let's hope they come back around sometime soon.
