Count Vesuvius tonight at the 7th Street Entry

They identify on Myspace as "punk," but that's simple modesty speaking. The local four-piece Count Vesuvius is our own little addition into the barrel of syrupy sludge that is the metal world in 2009, and they seem to have borrowed a page from their obvious idol Ozzy Osbourne-- not only is their sound distinctly reminiscent of Black Sabbath in an opium night terror, but, like the Godfather of Metal before them, they have flirted numerous times with retirement, always defying their own declarations of calling it quits to bang out one more stellar show.
Performing with them is fledgling breakouts Chibalo. Loud as fuck in turn, they've created a great stir in just a short time playing out. In all, tonight's Entry show is the perfect way to turn an idyllic March evening into a blood sacrifice to whichever pagan God terrifies you most deeply. And with a dirth of metal club shows happening citywide tonight, this is pretty much the only place that won't give you a boot on the butt for your hand-studded new jean vest.
