MinniHaha: Patrick Bauer headlines Laugh. Rock. Repeat.

Rock 'n' roll and comedy are a natural pairing; most comics play the guitar (badly), and most musicians think they're funny. The inimitable Gus Lynch is uniting Twin Cities' singers and the jokesters for the latest installment of his Laugh. Rock. Repeat. series, and this one promises to be a barnburner. Along with the musical talents of the self-explanatory One Man Dan and the melodic tunes of Mise en Place, two thirds of the Minneapolis Comedy Death Squad will perform, complete with a headlining set from Patrick Bauer.

Bauer is one of the local kings of comedy. Like any royalty worth noting, he's got the lineage to prove it: He's the son of two stand-up comics. He's opened for Daves Mordal and Chappelle, appeared twice on Last Comic Standing, and is the head writer for TV's Drinking with Ian. Onstage Bauer deftly navigates heady subjects like poverty, racism, and social injustice by approaching them with his childlike sense of glee and good humor. He's a comic with a social conscience a la Bill Hicks and Doug Stanhope (he'll be opening for the latter with Death Squad comrades Chris Maddock and Wayne Burfeind at the end of the month), but his style is so laid-back and amiable that the force of his worldview is underscored -- but never undercut -- by a winning sense of hopefulness and good will. Also featured on the bill are Burfeind, the reliably brutal Gabe Noah and Bob Edwards, and Acme regular Erik Allen. That's an awful lot of funny for five bucks.
