7th St. Entry hosts screening party for Hold Steady live DVD

Surprised about the announcement that the Hold Steady will be playing the Basilica Block Party this year? Yeah, us too. How they ended up on the Cities 97-sponsored Basilica lineup this year instead of playing the Current's Rock the Garden (whose lineup was surprisingly tame and lacking in any real "rock" bands), is beyond us. Does Cities 97 even play Hold Steady songs on air? (Update: yes, they occasionally do.) But more power to the adult contemporary-oriented station, who announced their best lineup in years yesterday with both Minneapolis favorites the Hold Steady and the reunion of the Olson/Louris fronted Jayhawks, who haven't performed as a band in Minneapolis since 1995, on the bill.

For those impatient to see Craig Finn and Co. return to town, head over to the Entry on Monday night for an exclusive screening of their new live DVD, A Positive Rage. According to the Hold Steady website, the Entry's screening is one of only three screening parties in the nation. The screening is free and 18+, with doors at 8 p.m.

Here's a trailer from Rough Trade UK that previews the live DVD. If I'm not mistaken, some of the concert footage was shot at their First Avenue show last July.
