We're not really sure if Jonathan Ackerman sleeps. From the looks of the pic above, that's a surefire "no." He's too busy throwing crazy theme parties (
Goth,
Fiesta,
Superhero, and our favorite to poke a stick at,
Hobo) and DJing for the amassing Twin Cities hipster contingency and the last of the un-jaded ravers. There's a reason Jonathan gets booked so much here -- maybe two -- and that's because he knows exactly what tracks will get his crowd to lose it on the dancefloor and he is, quite frankly, a marketing genius. You'll see what we mean by the end of this quick 5-question interview, which would have been a lot quicker if he had a shorter resume.
Gimme Noise:
First, the question we always ask: Where can we find you throughout the
week, and do you have any really hot shiz coming up you want to plug?
Jonathan Ackerman:
Haha, that's actually a tough question to answer, but I'm going to try
my best. Next Tuesday I have an event that I really excited to be a
part of. It's a totally free event in the 7th Street Entry at First Ave
with DJ Klever, Kill The Noise, DJ Haul and Rob Wonder. You have to
RSVP to get in and you can do so at
http://www.scion.com/metro.
Every 3rd Friday of the month
The Moon Goons take over the VIP room at First Ave for our monthly themed party, Honeymoon. We are coming up on our 2 year anniversary at the end of the summer. We have some great guests coming so make sure not to miss these nights. I think that citypages.com has some crazy photos of these parties on your site that can give people a good idea of what to expect from these.
Finally on the last Friday of every month, The Moon Goons get together with Burlesque, Get Cryphy, and Shannon Blowtorch to bring you BOMP! which isn't very old, but has been insane every time. There is going to be a special two day BOMP! this month, on Thursday the 28th it is the official Santigold afterparty with Devlin and Darko. Then on Friday the 29th, we have Zebo all the way from Chicago as well as The Moon
Goons, Get Cryphy, Shannon Blowtorch, and Attitude City.
Other than this, you can find me on the first friday of every month at the Kitty Cat Klub for my night, Hotel, that I've been doing for something like 5 years now. It's always free and 21+ and I usually brings out some cool talent. I actually have a really awesome guest at this coming one on Friday June 5th, Egyptrixx. He is just back from a European tour and this is one of the few dates that he's doing in the states.
Whew, I think I covered all of it.
GN: Oh, it's our turn finally? Cool. (Ha). Everytime we see you, you are wearing some crazy new t-shirt. Are you a fashion fan, and where do you get your digs?
JA: We actually print a different shirt every month for Honeymoon, we put the designs up on the
blog the week of the show so you can decide if you want one. We do limited runs and always sell out, so people will usually come early to get one. We have a shop going up in the next couple of weeks and we will have a few selected designs up for sale again.
Come to think of it, I don't think I have worn a t-shirt that wasn't a Moon Goons shirt in almost a month now. I just have so many of them! We do work with VS. in Uptown and they are one of my favorite local shops. Sometimes you can even find a few of that month's Honeymoon shirts there.
GN: "Moongoons." Where did that name come from, and who did you start it with under what pretense?
JA: The Moon Goons are/is Josh Clancy, Travis Stearns and myself. That is all I can tell you... muahahahhahaha!
GN: What is the silliest thing you've ever seen on the dancefloor?
Oh man, the last Honeymoon's theme was Fiesta and people really went all out for that one. I was looking through some of the photos that we took and they are hilarious. We had everything from passed out people sitting in chairs to people completely decked out in Fiesta gear. I'm LOL'ing just thinking about those photos right now. You can check out our
Flickr.
GN: If you had to mix your last two records together right this instant and could never play records again, which two would it be?
JA: I love to end sets with "Strings of Life" by Rhythm Is Rhythm so that would be my last song ever. It's such a perfect "it's over" song. I don't know about second to last, if I'm ending with a classic it would have to be something really cheesy and immediate like "One More Time" by Daft Punk so that everyone would get really riled up. I don't know if I could mix those two together, though. It might sound horrible.
