Flyover Land Vol. 1 available for free download

Just because it's online doesn't mean you can't call it a mixtape.

After an interminable wait, Flyover Land Vol 1. is at last available for free download through Midwest Broadcast's website, and even a cursory glance at the track listing proves that its protracted gestation hasn't been for naught.
Heiruspecs, M.anifest, Muja Messiah, Big Quarters... The roster is a veritable who's who and what's which of Midwest hip hop, from the Twin Cities and beyond (don't begrudge us our special love for the local heroes, gang).

And as if that wasn't enough, almost all the tracks are brand spanking new, exclusive material, still oozing that new-studio smell. This 17 track sampler is a healthy harvest of some of the best and most promising MCs and producers our little strip of dairy pasture offers.

If you don't pay close attention, it can be pretty easy to fall into the wrongful assumption that the Midwest is ruled by Rhymesayers and Rhymesayers alone, that benevolent dictator of all things that go boom-bip in the night. With such a bright, shining beacon, other acts not so easily united under so visible a brand can sometimes go without the press and accolades they rightly deserve. Respect to Midwest Broadcast for turning out such a crucial release. It's music that will edify every ear, and with a price tag of $0.00 on the nose, it's the kind of populist endeavor that should give anyone the warm fuzzies.
