The details are scarce. In fact, they're non-existent. But when we checked the Death Set's Myspace page this afternoon, the headline read "R.I.P. our dear brother, we love you" and the comments section was already choked with condolences.
Sure enough, the news had reached Pitchfork: Beau Velasco, a founding member and guitarist of Baltimore's electro-punk outfit the Death Set died over the weekend.

From the Brooklyn Vegan, as posted by the Death Set: "R.I.P. my dear brother, friend and band mate Beau Velasco. For all those who wish to pay their respects I will let know soon."
The Death Set were a notable cross-genre act, mixing hip-hop sampling habits with punk performance energy. The band dwelt with the crowd, eschewed stages, and ended their shows covered in the sweat of those around them.
They netted numerous local and national awards--The Baltimore City paper voted them best band of 2007, and their touring regimen took them across both coasts of the U.S, through Belgium, Japan, and the west coast of Australia with bands like Japanther and Girl Talk.
No word on the cause of Velasco's death, nor how this will affect the Death Set's future plans.
