Wavves returns tonight at the 7th Street Entry
Oh, we're just funning lil' Nathan Williams. We know he's a little more fragile than he was letting on, and you know what? We're ready to admit the kid made some decent pop music. We're ready to say that we jumped all over him like firemen at ground zero after his Barcelona... uh... thing.
But the game has changed for Wavves now. It can be said that the backlash struck him so soundly across the cheek that it may have finally receded-- local crowds might have finally come to grips with the fact that the buzz surrounding him wasn't his fault, that Williams is a capable and charming singer-songwriter, and not the messiah of 4-track chord rock that third party press painted him to be. In short, people might be ready to listen with their own ears, see with their own eyes, and not hold him to a reputation he had nothing to do with in the first place. It's not just lowering expectations for Wavves. It's readjusting them.
And here's hoping they do-- despite the bile we dumped over his head last time he came through, we've had some time to grow too. It's decent music, and his line-up is good. Everyone deserves a second chance to be heard properly, right? Now if you'll excuse us, we have some files to shred.
