Mashups of the Week: Spice Girls & "Fleetwood Mashed"

Regardless of whether or not you're a fan of mashups, or just want something fresh for your jam-box, this taste-test from the new Fleetwood Mac Mashed album should sit well with you. The first track from the mix debuted this week (as did the entire album) at A plus D's monthly Bootie Top 10 mix; here's what they had to say,

File under: when good producers do bad things. Mashing the Beastie Boys with just about anything just about guarantees the resulting track will be remotely listenable. NYC producer DAW-GUN has found the exception to that rule however: "Wannabe" by the Spice Girls. I can't even make fun of it because it's done really well--the cuts are seamless and it's kinda funny how well "Hey Ladies" plays into the soon-to-be-re-reunited pop divas breakout hit. That said, "Wannabe" is still a disgusting track and completely erases much of DAW-GUN's good work on the mash.

This past week I had a few words with the (almost) legendary (in certain circles) producer team9. For those who might be unfamiliar, chances are you've actually heard something the Australian bootlegger has done, especially if you've paid any attention to the blogosphere over the past five years. For the past three years team9 has produced Stereogum's year end MySplice mixes (2006, 2007, 2008) and he represented one half of the duo that built the infamous American Edit. An absolute must-hear for the uninitiated.
