On September 29 both Samoa and American Samoa (they're located about halfway between New Zealand and Hawaii) were hit with hard by a tsunami. The incident caused massive damage to the islands. Several villages were completely wiped out and around 200 people perished. This Saturday, Peace Corps volunteers returning from Samoa will team up with Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity to throw a party at Psycho Suzi's in hopes to raise funds for the people who have lost their homes.

The benefit is this Saturday, October 17 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the appropriately-themed tiki lounge, Psycho Suzi's Motor Lodge (2519 Marshall St. NE, Minneapolis; 612.788.9069). Guests can enjoy Polynesian food, tropical drinks (a specialty at the bar), beer, and Samoan music. There will also be a talk led by Peace Corps volunteers, who have been to the area and seen the devastation, and show slides of before and after the tsunami. A raffle will be held as well.

The event is free, though all donations and proceeds received will benefit Western Samoa Habitat for Humanity and will directly go towards building homes for displaced victims.
