Sims tonight at the Turf Club

Those Doomtree lads (and lasses) sure know how to stay busy.

After Cecil Otter performed at the Uptown Bar as part of the fabled venue's farewell run, Sims goes solo tonight at the Turf Club. Vocally, Sims is the Q-Tip of the Doomtree collective, the easy-breezy, rasped upper register rap that manages to be menacing and non-chalant in the same rhyme.

Winter's coming, and so is the busiest month of the year for Doomtree. Their annual blowout show, which has been a runaway success since its inception a few years ago, rolls around this December, and P.O.S. returns to the Main Room on his own accord to headline a show with Moonstone and Slapping Purses (see why we love this guy?).

But tonight's show is a glimpse of why Doomtree is such a dynamic entity. Sims is a wildly talented MC, who never waxes overly poetic, never falls back on easy tropes, and is always an on-point performer. With DJ TRL's Cicrus dance partty in the Clown Lounge, there's no excuse for staying inside tonight, no matter how far the mercury plummets.
