Cloud Cult to offer expanded re-issues next month

While Cloud Cult has long since played its last show of the year, the band will be giving its fans some new material before the decade ends. Sort of. Craig Minowa and crew will be re-releasing 2003's They Live on the Sun and 2004's Aurora Borealis as an expanded, remastered double-disc album next month.
Long since out of print, the two records mark a tragic time in the life of Craig (lead vocalist) and Connie (visual artist) Minowa's life. Following the unexpected passing of the couple's two year old son in 2002, Craig took to the family's farm in northern Minnesota where he wrote and recorded the albums over the next 18 months.
Despite being released on a shoestring budget through the band's homemade Earthology Records each album received national acclaim. In Pitchfork's "Found Sound 2004" recap, Marc Hogan described Cloud Cult as "the kind of band Pitchfork should have embraced two years ago." Continuing, Hogan described the triumph of They Live on the Sun, "Terrible things happen every day, but records this casually monumental are rare indeed."
The double-disc is available for pre-sale at the band's website, and will be released December 8. While the band has yet to schedule any shows for the new year, Cloud Cult will be releasing a new album in the fall of 2010.
