Circuit bending is the fine art of taking old or discarded electronic items and manipulating them into making new sounds. Using simple soldering techniques old toys and drum machines that time forgot can become new musical instruments, and can result in some pretty catchy beep and boop music. Want to learn how to make that electric keyboard you haven't used since the '80s cool again? Sign up for next week's free workshop.

The event is next Saturday, December 19 from noon to 2 p.m. at Franklin Art Works (1021 E. Franklin Ave., Minneapolis). Participants are asked to bring a battery-powered item to manipulate. The workshop will be hosted by circuit bending experts, Beatrix*JAR. Together the duo, composed of Bianca Pettis and Jacob Aaron Roske, have traveled around the Midwest, helping to create new instruments from old junk.

Interested? The free class is open for all ages, but limited to 20 participants. To sign up email colleen@franklinartworks.org.
