Metallagher, Gallagher tonight at Station 4
Is this the cultural turning point for the ignominious prop-comic's gutter-level cred? It has all the makings. After all, nothing turns around cultural opinion quite like allowing yourself to be satirized.
And that's exactly what will happen tonight at Station 4, as the Cities' premier Metallica-slash-Gallagher tribute band opens for the real deal Gallagher. Didn't see this one coming? You're not the only one.
Metallagher. 'Nuff said.
Maybe it's been a decade since you even thought of Gallagher. It's certainly been that long since Comedy Central no longer had to run weekly re-broadcasts of his stand-up specials to hoist flagging late-night ratings.
But here he comes, in all his watermelon smashing glory. In a run-up to the show, Gimme Noise has spent some quality time with some of his online clips, and have come to the personally harrowing conclusion that, when all is said and done, the guy isn't all that unfunny after all.
Whatever your feelings on the comic are, this is one of those absurd cultural touchstones that only come around once a decade or so. And it's certainly going to be one of those left-field live experiences that, even if it fails to deliver on its bizarre premise, will be the talk of legend in coming years. Unmissable.
21+. 8:00 P.M. $20.00 seating/$10.00 standing. Station 4, 201 E. 4th Street, Saint Paul.
