Art for Brute Heart's first EP, by Jes Seamans.

Delay FX, reverbed vocals, and all manner of pedal wizardry seem to net all the attention for bringing musical mind-fuckery to the fore. But Brute Heart, the distinctly analog local three piece, is bringing cavernous, reveberant melody back to its basics.

On viola, bass and drums, Brute Heart paints a stunning landscape that is at once inviting and perilous. And tonight, they'll be splitting stage time with Take Acre and Lighted.

In October of 2008, Brute Heart released their first full length, Brass Beads, at the Hexagon. The show, which also saw Gay Beast dropping a 7 inch of their own, put Brute Heart in the lips and hearts of local listeners who are up to a good challenge.

Check out the selection on their Myspace page, and you'll find a handful of songs that seem to reach to you from the far end of a vast chamber. The vocal harmonies are ghostly and ligner long after the notes have ended, and the melodies crafted by violist Jackie Beckey and bassist Crystal Myslajek are perfectly otherworldly. The notes may be familiar, but they pair with one another to create a musical mobius that flummoxes the mind in beautiful ways.

18+. 8:00 P.M. $5.00. 7th Street Entry, 701 First Avenue North, Minneapolis; 612.338.8388.
