Swans.

Of all the people who bought and listened to Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music, Swans founder Michael Gira may be the only one who never plugged his ears.

Swans, the widely influential and much prefixed Gothic-art-noise-punk band that rose to prominence from the New York underground, announced their plans to reunite for an album and tours on their Myspace page.

Straight from the Swans' mouth:

The song "Jim" recently added to the playlist is an acoustic demo (solo at home)
recording by michael gira. this, and many other new songs recorded in the same way comprise many of the new (rough versions) of songs under consideration,
to be fleshed out on the coming new swans album. a cd of these acoustic versions, as well as a live (2 shows) dvd of m.gira will be for sale  very soon as a hand made (by gira) package called I Am Not Insane (CD/DVD). this package - in a limited edition of 1000 - will be sold in order to  raise money for the swans recordings/offset the huge costs involved...  check back here or at http://younggodrecords.com  for ordering details and more information...coming soon...coming soon...

This should be phenomenally exciting news for anyone to anyone who wants to know where Skinny Puppy trained their ears, or for anyone who is curious about this darkly beautiful band that never achieved the prominence that their influence should have commanded.

If you've never listened, now's a good time to raid Cheapo of their few remaining copies of Feel Good Now, their blistering and agonizing live album. It might offend the ear at first, but within all that grinding clatter lies a beating black heart. Keep your eyes and ears on Gimme Noise for more details as the emerge.
