Janelle Monae was easily one of my favorite acts at South by Southwest last year, and I've been waiting ever since for her to announce another Minneapolis date. Her music spans soul, psychedelia, electro-pop, and dance music, and her stage show is phenomenal -- in the span of a single set last year, Monae kicked, spun, and danced her hair out of its tightly woven pompadour more than once before smashing her mic stand and jumping into the audience to crowd surf as she sang her finale. It was a spectacle, in every sense of the word. She's a one-of-a-kind performer, and her show will leave you astounded.
Monae will return to Minneapolis to play the Varsity Theater on March 31, and has a new album on the way later this spring. Her first single, "Tightrope," debuted on Pitchfork today, and another single, "Cold War," will be posted to JanelleMonae.com tomorrow.

Monae is also set to play Lilith Fair this summer, but there's no word yet on whether she will be along for the Minnesota date.
