A thousand years ago I was tabling a show at the Dinkytowner for Radio K, where some band named Tapes 'n Tapes had everyone whispering excitedly, nearly jinxing them (it didn't). The demo they gave me that night received a lot of attention in my satellite - it sounded all play and serious and experiment, so nonchalant. It still sticks out to me, all these years later.
Now they're very much a national act (useless metric: they have twice the MySpace fans of the Fiery Furnaces), with all of the hype eddies and ups and downs from our babybrained cultureborg
to prove it. Regardless of where on the long tail they currently sit, the band has spent the past winter writing new material for the studio, which they should be sitting in right about now.
They had this to say on their website
: "Our winter has been focused on less talk and more rock. We've got a bunch of new rock, a full album's worth actually. We are going in to the studio to record our third LP. We're really excited for all of you to hear what we've been working on for all this time."
No release date has been set, but with the current schedule it's reasonable to expect late summer/early fall. With a tour, mais oui
